Hi all,
I am new to this forum, though the topic I raise is ancient, by now - mask fogging. I have always suffered from fogging as my face is warm and the surrounding water is cool or cold, and none of the spitting, toothpaste and other fixes have made a difference... also dunking my head to cool it off does not work, so I am writing to ask if anyone else has a similar problem of chronic fogging, that I fix by flushing my mask with surrounding water numerous times each dive, but that only gives me a minute or so of reduced fogging, and when clearing the mask of water - this often recreates fogging as I do that by exhaling from my nose...
Advise/thoughts are more than welcome
Thanks
Dror

mac duyver is right. it seem from the beginning your mask prep from out of the box was not right. Afterwards you might consider also an anti fog solution but the baby shampoo does the trick add few drops to a water bottle put it on the mask before diving. rinse it just a bit before the dive don't apply your finger on the lens.

Be safe

I know this might seem too obvious, but have you tried different masks? I am sure the above comments are helpful, but doesn’t everyone that’s been diving use baby shampoo, defogger, toothpaste, lighter(not me I’m not sure I trust myself)?

I have problems with masks fogging too. Nose breather here:). I’ve found that certain masks fog more even though I have given them the same treatment out of the box and use the same products on them during dives. I bought a new Oceanic and was excited to use it.. but can’t stand it.. it fogs terribly. Went back to my off brand. It has tinted glass so I wanted one that wasn’t.

assuming your mask is clean from the last dive - use a 3inch high 3/4inch diameter spray bottle with glass cleaner, dispense the glass cleaner and replace it with 50/50% Johnsons baby shampoo + water, place that small spray bottle in your mask box with your mask and keep it there at all times, spray the mixture onto the lens (2 or 3 squirts) nothing else, enter the water, put you mask on, if the vision is weird lift the mask and break the seal, allow a little water in, put the mask on, move your head up+down and clear the glass with the water, lift the bottom of the mask off your cheeks, then seal the mask and dive........... let me know how it goes

Baby shampoo for me. Never fails. I wipe some on with toilet paper. Spread it until no streaking. You can do this weeks before the dive as well.

Sounds like you have not scrubbed the mask with toothpaste enough, often hear that people have scrubbed the mask but it takes time and patience. Scrub for at least 10/15 minutes on the inside of the lens, use a whitening, or smokers toothpaste as these are more abrasive & use a timer. Good luck!

Apply the anti fog thing of your choice (I use sea gold Drops) to a DRY mask with dry fingers, just a little, and rub it. Then rinse the mask 3 to 3 times. Enough, so you have no visible residue , but not much more. Then drop out most of the water, but do not dry it. Cool your head and put the mask on. Once you have the mask on, try to not remove it.

If I have still a fog build up, I let a little bit of water in my mask, swing my head and clear it.

Normally I have not an issue, and I do not prepare the mask after buying, at most briefly toothpaste.

Toothpaste is my go to. Never fails, and the cheaper the better. Don't get the fancy stuff, get the cheapest possible. And it works perfectly, even when I have some sunscreen on my face, or in high heat.

I've tried the baby shampoo, even fancy mares formulas and stuff, toothpaste still works best. I also keep my backup mask pasted, and dried and it stays when submerged. Since you need to rub it off properly.
