Then how do we compensate the ears if we cannot reach our nose?

Hey, just a thought here, but are you guys aware that when you use a FFM like the ID2 that has a Oral-Nasal Mask built in, you can quite easily breathe in and out of your nose too? Not only does that make it very convenient, but it feel's very natural and comfortable. Your face stay's warmer, there's no chance of it falling off(the mask), or getting knocked loose, the fact that you don't have a mouthpeice to bite down on and therefore zero jaw fatigue problems, and it makes clearing much easier too!

Thanks for the tip, ill try it to since I often panick under water. Well I think Ive won over my fear of water... here is my story:

When I was little, I had a recurrent dream about me falling in a fall from high grounds. Because of that dream, I was always afraid to put my head in water. Even splashes from friends scared me. I kept my arms inflators on until i was 12 ! (dont laugh :( )

I never took a swimming course and learned myself and with the help of friends and brothers.
I was still afraid of putting my head in water since the age of 18. One day, in the pool, I decided to take over this fear. So I put my head (holding my nose) under. I then opened my eyes just the look how things were. I was panicked and got my head off the water. I repeated the thing many times in the pool until I was really able to keep my head under water for a while. I am 23 now, scubadiving and proud to know I took over this fear of water. I still get to hold my nose, since no "nose holder" stays on my nose to prevent me from having water.

I know it's silly for a man to admit he had fear of water, but I admit it.

Just to know, is it any trick to prevent water from entering my nose when trying to breath with regulator in mouth and no mask on?

I had a heck of a time initially 3 years ago with mask clearing when I was taking the class in the pool. I have trouble breathing out of the reg with my mask off as I tend to breath in through my nose too, which causes panic. So upon mask clearing, from now on here is a trick, at least I use:

When mask off or flooded...simply hold nose, breath through reg, gain composure, then take big breath and start to clear mask. As breath is gone, hold nose again and take another big breath and do again. Believe me, this has reduced my mask clearing fear tremdously...works for me!

DevilTron, it's sooo easy it's amazing. There is an adjustable rubber v shaped piece just under your nose. When you push up on any part of your mask, that piece blocks your nose and allows you to clear it. There are of course a couple of other ways to equalize...

What are those other ways to equalize?

Valsalva Maneuver - Is when you block your nose and blow gently against it.

Frenzel Maneuver - Is when you swallow (compress the throat muscles)

Another Way - to equalize is the wiggle your jaw from side to side while moving it forward.

The Valsalva is the easiest to do, but the Frenzel is the safest as it will minimize the possibility of a round window rupture in your ear.

Of course the above is written in very simple terms, I'm sure one of the boards Doc's can go into more detail than I can process in one reading... LOL, they're good at that!

Hehe well thanks :)

I knew the "jaw method", but it never worked for me.

By the way, i like your Mario Bros. pictures
I play Nintendo since im 12 so...

Hey DevilTron, am I to assume you are a gamer? If so any experience playing Elite Force?

I used to frequent the Counter-Strike servers on Game Spy Arcade on a regular basis, until too many people started to cheat. There's just no challenge to play with people whom use Head Shot Scripts combined with Through Wall Shots.

Look into Elite Force. It's a FPS, that runs on the Quake 3 engine for the PC. Truely l33t! Also check out my clan site: The Obsidian Order

Ok I'll take a look and I'll take some infos on Elite... now let's get back in the main subject of this board :P
