I did my OW in the Red Sea and due to the fact that I was wearing my mask too high I became very adept at mask clearing by the time my course finished. Luckily I now wear my mask correctly but have found that due to my early troubles I have no problem with mask removal at all, in fact I almost enjoy it.

I'm a newbie. During my first pool session I also had problems with mask clearing. I was exhaling through my mouth, and there was an instance when I panicked because I couldn't see (because of water in my eyes).
From the day after the 1st pool session to the 2nd pool session, I tried to practice exhaling through my nose without the mask. Then at the start of my 2nd pool session, I went underwater and opened my eyes sort of telling myself, see, it isn't really bad.
When I did my mask clearing and mask removal/clearing, I did very well.
Try this and maybe it will work for you too.
