I always use a hot nail and burn a hole in each corner of the case, it's too small to allow cockroaches in but allows some air in. I always rinse and soak my mask after use and give it a good clean with warm soapy water if its going to be stored for any length of time. I've never had any "growth" on it.

The case is cracked.

I do store it in a non locking rubbermaid container with all my other rinsed off and dry diving gear.
 
That being the "case", haven't you also noticed some of your other gear is just a bit grotty here and there?

Actually, no.

Aside from some water at the bottom of the rubbermaid it is kept in, there is nothing else that has any collection of anything on it that it shouldn't have on it.
