Hi all! I just returned from the Bahamas via a live-a-board "The Juliet" It was great. Had some funky weather at times but all in all it was great.

Now I am down to cleaning my gear now. I use 500 psi BC and wetsuit solution, but I was curious about best methods to clean my masks. I had some of the 500 psi mask scrub but it seams to have gone bad. Does anyone have any better ways of cleaning the film off of masks?:06:

Hey scubagal,

I just returned from the Juliet about a month ago. Had a great time in spite of the 10' swells we experienced on the crossing to the Bahamas.

Have you tried using toothpaste to clean the film off the mask? Try something white (not the gel kind). It has a light abrasive quality that will remove the film. Don't scrub too hard with your hands, and you should be okay.

As in cleaning a new mask? Most people talk about toothpaste. What I did was toss it in a dishpan with warm water and dish soap, let it soak 20 minutes, then rub it with my thumb -- cleaned everything off quite well.

I've had good luck using Softscrub, citrus and a toothbrush.

The test I use is to clean and rinse the mask then rinse it in your coldest tap water to chill the glass. Lift the glass to your mouth and do a bug deep humid breathy exhale. If you see fog spots you know where to clean some more. Once you pass this test your antifog will work well.

FWIW I use 50% Johnson's Baby Shampoo diluted with water. Spray wipe and a quick rinse with fresh water.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate all the suggestions. I'll give it a whirl. Yeah J75, the crossing was a bear. Threw up everything but my shoes. Would do it all over again though. I already scheduled a trip for 2007 to the Turks and Caicos. The countdown has begun.
