I finished my mid-week project this afternoon. I laid line from the pier pilings in the center of the cove at Cobble Beach out to the newly re-discovered Marineland Platform. The line begins in 15 feet and goes across the long piling that lays parallel to the West side of the 120 Reef. It then crosses over the reef for about 50 feet before heading across the sand to a depth of 80 feet. The wooden deck and a few of the tires are now gone but the platform is covered with algae, several species of nudibranchs and today there was a large school of Blacksmith hovering above it. Along the line you will come across large Sea Pens and a few Mantis shrimp. I saw a very large one Tuesday. The line is thin and cheap, so be careful not to grab it.

Great Job Phil!!

We all appreciate your hard work and effort.

Tomorrow morning I will be checking out your new line plan

Have a great dive. The vis was only about five feet today, but the Santana winds have flattened the ocean. It should be getting clearer over the next few days. It was flat enough to see the float clearly from the parking lot. It took 15 minutes to make the surface swim but only seven minutes to get back to the 120 Reef under water.

I think we should call this Flying Dutchman Reef since it disappears and you never know when you'll see it again! ;)

Nice job finding it again. Looks like it's in a little deeper water, so maybe it won't move much the next time.

Yahoo! Way to go Phil...hey, how did you find it...out at 80', lots of sand? You da Man :eyebrow:

Phil, what do you think happen...storm? Boat caught it with net and dragged it?

Oh the mystery, I can't take it...I need answers...

For a year Ray Arntz (Sundiver) said that we were all wrong and that it was in the same place. Last week, he and Gary Fabian (UB88) used sidescan sonar and located it 900 feet from its previous location. Gary gave me the images and coordinates and Ross took Merry, Elaine and I there last Sunday and provided the float and downline. There is a new fishing net on it. It appears that a trawler snagged and dragged it until finally cutting away the net. The wooden deck and a few tires are gone but there are more nudis and fish.
