I haven't tried any of the other masks mentioned in this thread, but I currently am diving with an Oceanic Shadow. I find it to be very comfortable with a great field of view. It's only the second mask I've owned, but I love it. It's a low profile mask, and I've got no complaints at all...

Hi,

I have been using an X-Vision for the last 6 months (about 25 dives). I like it alot. Field of vision is great (especially downwards for gages) and it's very light. I have noticed two minor drawbacks to consider. One, I find that I get more water sepage than my Scubapro Fina. The water seems to eminate from the cheekbone area at the bottom of the mask. This is only slight but causes me to clear the mask about every 15 minutes (may not be an issue depending on how it fits you). Two, the attachment of the mask strap to the skirt of the mask rather than the frame makes the strap less sturdy for monting things like a mask light (if you use one).

Even with these drawbacks, the increase in field of vision and the weight of the mask, It is now my primary mask. My Scubapro is now my backup...

I have the Visualator. I had to move the strap high on the back of my head to provide a tighter fit at the bottom of the mask because it was pressing on my head between my eyes. This adjustment worked, and I love the field of vision. This mask is definately for someone with a long face or a large head. If you have a large nose the visualator may not be for you.

I ended up getting the Visulator a couple months back, and have no complaints. It fits well for me - no leaks, volume is not too high, and great field of vision.

i have had both, the x-vision and the visualator. both are great but i like the x-vision a little better for two reasons: first, it is definitely significantly lower volume. second, you can fold it like a frameless mask and stuff it in a pocket as a backup. the only drawback is that the strap is a non-standard size.

Really like these two masks, but have not seen a direct comparison. Has any one compared the two mask to get an opinion. They seem to be the best masks for offering the widest field of view. Also considering the Mares Shooter Mask, Mares X-Comfort, and Ocenic Shadow. I am planning on using the mask for both Rec/Tech diving. Thanks for the input.

The Visualator was the other choice I was considering when I was thinking of buying my mask. I decided to go with the X-Vision mainly because I rather have separate lenses. But that's me.
Anyways, I recommend the X vision. It's very easy to handle the straps, gloves or not, it's very comfortable, great field of vision. I'm very pleased w/ it.
Be sure though to remove very well the silicone film. I took me quite a few tries to strip it off. For this use a toothbrush (electrical is better, you'll get less tired at least) toothpaste, and don't be afraid to scratch it, you won't. For some reason this is quite a stubborn silicone film they put on it.

I have the X and I also use the Aqualung Mythos, The X is a great mask and the field of vision is great but after a long dive it puts a lot of pressure on my forehead. You may want to look at the Aqualung Mythos or the tyke; they are also great for field of vision and are very low volume. Plus they just look cool, you hardly know you are wearing a mask.

doc, I replaced my strap with a DIR velcro strap... the strap is about 2mm wider than the strap holder, but it scrunches up fine and doesn't really pose an issue anymore. I was always worried that the soft silicone strap would break over time.
