I just bought the Technomad 135 from my LDS and never once thought that it may be too big for standard baggage while flying. I have since checked the Mares website (as well as others) but cannot find anything that tells me the LxWxH dimensions or wheter or not it is airplane "legal".

I measured the bag after I put all my gear in it and it has me worried that it may be too big.

Any help would be appreciated.....Thanks.

Hi,

I travel on regular domestic and international flights with the technomad 135 packed to the gills all the time. It has never been a problem. They will want to weigh it, because it looks big but if packed properly there is no worry.

Thank you Zak for the quick response.

I have packed everything into the bag that i will be taking and still weigh-in less than 50 pounds. You mention being "packed properly"? I am assuming that since all of the zippers close with ease and I don't have to sit on it to make it close that I am "packed properly". Would that be correct?

Maybe "properly" wasn't the right word. I was eluding to the fact that anything over 50lbs cost extra $ on most airlines.

Have a good trip wherever you are going.

FAA doesn't set bag size and weight limits. The various airlines do, so you should be looking at the website for whatever airline(s) you will be using.

A limit of length + width + height of 62 inches maximum is common, as is 50 pound weight limit for domestic US flights. 70 pounds on some airline and international flights. On some charters and smaller inter-island aircraft the weight limit may be 20kg / 44 pounds.

Some 31" size suitcases have total L+W+H up around 65", but most check-in agents don't seem to look that close and rarely charge for oversize unless it is very obvious. Skycaps doing curbside check-in of bags are even more likely to ignore a slightly oversize or overweight bag.

It also helps when checking in curbside, to have your tip out so the skycap can see it! I have NEVER paid for my overweight dive bag. :eyebrow:
