Any experience/issues with the Mares R2 rebel regulator?

We rented them in Cozumel last year. They are not balanced, so they are hard breathers down deep. If you want a Rebel, get the balanced R12, if you ask me. I used the R2 on three dives a day and was tired by the end. But they seemed to work better than my Sherwood Brut which is comparable. Spend the extra bucks for the better first stage if you want to deeper than 50-80 ft.

I have 3. Very simple design, unbalanced piston. No issues. Nothing to brag about and not much to complain about. Being unbalanced, they will breath harder when the tank runs low, thats a feature in my book. I am not aware that they breath hard at depth, but since I don't venture real deep I don't know first hand.

I like to compare the ones I have to an old pickup truck. No matter how bad you treat it, it runs. Not the comfiest thing on the road. Not the fastest. Far from the best looking. But it starts every time you turn the key and gets ya where you are going.

They don't breath the best, but far from the worst. They are very easy to maintain and will give you dependable service as long as you own them. They don't have all the little "bells and whistles" of some other models, but they do fullfill one all important requirement. Inhale, exhale, repeat as necessary.
