Dear colleagues,

I was successfully diving my twinset as indies before starting up IANTD Adv Nitrox course :) and I have to introduce long hose on my Mares MR22 first stage (Abyss 2nd stage). MR22 uses an oversized port for connecting the second stage. I found one single shop which sells 210sm (7feet) hose for MR22 and it costs 70euro (50quid) vs 30 euro (20 quid) for a standard long hose (3/8").

Question is shall I save money buying standard hose and connecting via adapter 1/2" to 3/8", or would I sacrifice breathing quality doing it ? Though first stage facing hose connector is oversize, Mares still uses standard connector on the second stage side of the hose, so I personally cant see how oversize hole on one side of the hose can make a difference while second side of same hose is standard size. Is it just pure marketing this oversize port or shall I not be greedy and buy the proper hose ?

Thanks!

I went the adapter route for my long hose on the MR22. There is no discernible breathing quality issues that I have encountered.

I'm currently on a single tank and even doing an air share ascent drill with another person breathing on the long hose while I'm on the necklace off the same primary reg, there's been no problems for either diver.

i'd advise saving your money and going with the adapter.

From a DIR perspective you're adding in another failure point. How likely is that to fail, who knows? I went with the 1/2" hose on mine, but then again I found it at ScubaToys for $39!! Might want to check them out.

There is no difference in price between the 3/8" and the 1/2" connection needed.

Find all your hoses here at super prices this month. ....... $22.05 USD for an 84" (7 foot hose) even with postage it costs you less from the US than from your side.

LP-84" 1/2 CLICK HERE

I hope we can help you.

Cheers

I can vouch for Joel's great prices on their high quality hoses. I have purchased more than $300 worth over the past year, and am very happy with the quality. They also have the hex fitting extended away from the end of the hose. This makes it much less likely that you will marr the first stage body with a wrench.

Scubatoys had the 7 foot hose with the 1/2" on it. Don't remember the price, around $30 i think. They had it in stock and shipped same day. I needed one for my Abyss 22.
