Here is my post from another part of the same forum:
I have a Mares M1 it is a bit clunky (big) and all made of plastic, but mine works great !! It has been on every dive with me and never let me down. It runs on 2 AAA batteries, talk about easy to change batteries in the field. It comes in wrist and console mount. Mine is wrist. It has Nitrox and the RGBM technology. It has an optional computer interface. It is real easy to use and has great big numbers.
There is no question if I had millions I would go for the more slick models from Suunto but when we are all on the dive boat reading our computers, my M1 shows the same data as a Suunto at twice the money, just mine looks like it was built by Fisher Price, and their computers look like fine Swiss watches, (OK I have computer envy).
Most people just want to know the log book data like depth and time, and of course you make sure you have not exceeded your limits on your next dive.
You can get the Mares M1 for full retail on Ebay for $250 any time, but if you wait they go used for $150 all the time. You can also get the cousin -- the Dacor Darwin brand new for about $180. (Darwin is a Scuba Labs best choice award winner), the low price I am sure is because, Dacor has new owners and it is had to say how stable the company is now.

I have the M1-rgbm and it works great. I also have the IRIS interface and again, it works great. The only problem i have with the M1 is that the two pushbuttons are a bit hard to press, but you get use to this.
I downloaded the SCUBASE software and the M1 profiles and other data can be read by the SCUBASE.

I agree with both posts - works great, batteries easy to change, buttons can be tough with thick neoprene gloves on. Have about 150 + dives on it and going strong

Same here, so far about 40 dives on it - no problems - the buttons are a pain however and the menu system is a bit cryptic and more complex than it needs to be. I like the lanyard built in so I can't lose it if the strap breaks. It is clunky and looks a bit retro but I can read it.
