I wouldnt use a Mares BC if it was given to me.

I use the Mares Jubilee and am quite happy with it. It is true, if the weight pockets are inserted upside down they with fall off quite easily. I have noticed that draining the water out of it isnt always easy but nothing thats not tolerable. Thats really my only complaint about it. Under the water its great, easy to adjust and allows a lot of movement.
Beyond that, I say find a way to try it. I think all scuba gear depends on the person, if you like it, then go with it.

I've got a question about the Mares Jubilee.

I just bought a Dacor Falcon, but am considering returning it for an exchange. As far as I can tell, the Falcon has no depth compensating cummerbund (although the documentation refers to one and even tells you how to fit it around your waist...) I've narrowed down the field to either a smaller Dacor Falcon (the one I got is a size too large, so would need to be exchanged anyway), or the Mares Jubilee which looks like it is very similar in many respects. One difference may be the presence of a depth compensating cummerbund under the waist belt of the Jubilee. The pictures I've seen of the Jubilee sure look like there might be one. I'm sure if you've dove with a Jubilee, you'll know whether or not it has a cummerbund!

So, does it or doesn't it?

The other factor I'm considering is the weight integration. I really want more than just velcro securing my weights, and the Falcon does have quick release buckles in addition to velcro, but unlike some other buckles I've seen, the ones on the Falcon appear to need to be opened using two hands before you pull the weight pulls to extract the weights. This seems a bit akward (although *very* secure). I'm intreiged by the weight release system on the Jubilee. It looks like it's a simple grab and pull system, but doesn't rely on velcro alone to hold the weights in place. I understand from posts here that if the weight pouches are loaded in upside down, they may come out when you least expect it. Other than the problem of getting them in upside down, are they fairly easy to use? Can you pull each one out one-handed, or does it require two hands apiece like the Falcon?

Well, Now I'm not so sure I want to return my new Falcon. I just spent some time trying it on with my other gear. Previously I'd only tried it on over street clothes (it just arrived last night). Now I've tried it on with a 2mm shorty and with a 7mm Farmer John. It fits pretty nice with the Farmer John, and even with just the 2mm shorty I'm able to get the waist strap cinched down fairly snug. Mind you, it is pretty much at the very limit of cinching it down, but it fits pretty well otherwise. It certainly didn't feel like it was going to slip around on me (which is what I had feared it might do).

I'm not even all that sure the lack of a cummerbund is a big deal. I guess, since all the BCs I've ever dove with previously have had one I just sort of figured I needed one. Maybe I don't. On the plus side, this BC does have a very secure integrated weight system, even if it does take more steps to ditch the weight than I might like. I can be sure they'll never come loose when I don't want them too!

I don't mean to hijack this thread off of the Mares Jubilee. From what I can tell, it is in many ways a similar (and very competitive) BC to the Dacor Falcon.

anyone use a Mares Jubilee BCD? Looking at buying one. Need some advice from ya'll.

I will be traveling with the equipment every time I dive and want something small and compact for travel reasons.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The Jubilee is a great BC for traveling, MRS weight system is IMHO (and yes i have tried others) the best release system.

But are you buying kit onlt for warm water? do you plane on any other diving? Buying cheaper kit now could prove expensive in the long run! ;

Can't comment on the regs you mentioned but the same rules apply, Buy the best you can, remember this is what keeps you alive down there

I tried this BC at my LDS and it took a lot of effort to push the buttons down. If I had been wearing gloves it may have been impossible. Also the weight pouches are hard to load. For the price of the Jubilee you probably could get a much better BC. I have used other Mares BC's and loved them, but I really do not like their new integrated weight system.

I just got the Jubilee. The Weight system is simple and there is only one button on each pouch. They come out EZ when you want them to. As said before, make sure that the buttons are facing up and be sure the knob is tighten (allen wrench) on the BC.
