HI all ,
Is IM as well known as holbox for viewing Mantas in Late July ?
Would you stay on the island or visit from cancun?
Do you have to do a trip or can you rent snorkeling gear and swim from the island ?
Thanks to anyone who can help.

I've been down there 3 times during July-September..and while you will see loads of whale sharks (only snorkelling is allowed), I've never heard of it being an area to see mantas. I've never even seen one actually either snorkelling with the WS, or in local diving from Isla Mujeres down to Cozumel.

IM is THE place to see whale sharks, the whale shark operations on Holbox are on the way out

Stay at either one, depending on reasons other than the whale sharks, the whale shark tours from IM often leave from Cancun

You could swim out to see them if you're a strong swimmer, it's about 20 miles out to sea

Mantas are hit and miss. Last year on our tour - 150 whalesharks 0 mantas, this year - 4 whalesharks - 20 mantas
