launched on bcyber's Emmy-Lou.

first dive just south of Honolulu's Reef-Runway:
spied in the distance what appeared at first
to be a long torpedo shaped fish..
maybe a Wahoo (Ono)?

but as it got closer..
realized it was the tufted curl of an 8 foot Manta's cephalic lobe!

as the Manta approached even closer..
it tilted for a turn and exposed its underside spots:

here's some video too!

only my fourth Manta in as many years!
(not news to Big Isle nor Maui divers.. but still, rare sighting on Oahu =)
Merry Christmas to me! :D

and Mele Kaliki Maka to all!

Nice shot JJ...too bad I was still fixing the anchor when you took off and seen him...oh well still only 3 Mantas for me :-( Maybe next time ;-)

thanks dave.

Manta's are so cool looking!

wonder if it's just their novelty on Oahu.
nah.. if i saw 'em every night like on the Big Isle..
they'd still be cool.
