Manatee diving best dive tour

I am going to dive in crystal river tis winter anyone know a good dive shop or tour to go on?

Check out the guys at American Pro Dive shop in Crystal Rivers. I did a few days with them and had a great time and learned alot from them. Very professional group. I'm new here so dont know if this link will work but heres the url for them.

the best manatee charter hands down is at fun2dive scuba. 407-322-9696.
ask for joe. tell em jesse sent ya. if your gunna do it ya better book it now...he may be booked full already. its that good.

I went with American Pro Diving and realized afterwards this outfit didn't offer the best price or the most professional service. After further research, I now know the following shops are better qualified:

I would strongly recommend Birds Underwater. In fact, the first year I was going to use them was in the month of March. I had booked eight spots and they called me a week before to say that the Gulf waters had warmed up enough for the manatees to leave. They wanted to ask me to cancel my reservations as they didn't want me to be disappointed in my experience. They just asked that I remember them the next time I wanted to go the next winter. I thought that was incredibly nice. I've gone back with them every year since and have always recommended to family and friends highly. They have a loyal customer for life!

We went with Crystal Lodge Dive Center located at the Best Western Crystal River Resort.

The dive shop is located by the pool at the motel. You can just walk from your room to the boat.

Captain Andy was our captain for our tours. We plan on using them again this coming January.

They do guided Manatee snorkeling tours as well as guided river and spring dives, or you can rent a boat and go out yourself.

My vote would go to Bird's. They also get out on the river about an hour earlier than any of the other tours. Great operation, great people.

Is the beginning of Dec the best time to go or should I wait until Jan or Feb?

I heard that you can only snorkel around the manatee. I understand that scuba gear (breathing through a reg) spooks the manatee. Is this correct. How cold does crystal river get in the dead of winter? Is it a drift dive down a river?
