Body of diver recovered off Mana Island, rāhui in place
Emergency services were called just after 3pm after a diver failed to surface.
A person has died this afternoon while diving near Mana Island in Porirua.
In a statement, police said emergency services were called around 3.05pm after a diver failed to surface.
The person was unable to be revived, police saying they are working to support the diver's family.
Following the death, iwi have put in place a seven-day rāhui (prohibition), from Plimmerton to Mana Island.
On behalf of iwi, police are asking members of the public to respect the rāhui, which prohibits the collection of fish and shellfish during this period.
The death will be referred to the coroner.
