Here is an article I cut and pasted... We were about 35 miles north diving the same day. Up there the water was pretty rough also.

GOLD BEACH, Ore. -- An experienced scuba diver from Springfield drowned in rough waters off the Southern Oregon coast, while his wife was knocked unconscious by the rip current.

Daniel and Nikki Taylor of Springfield were both wearing wet suits when the accident happened around 3:50 p.m. Saturday, said Paul Glovannetti, a spokesman for the Gold Beach Police Department. Both were unconscious before witnesses could pull them ashore.

Nikki Taylor was taken to Curry General Hospital in stable condition. Daniel Taylor, a 32-year-old accountant, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
