On another thread there was mention of this new site and some links. Definitely something to look forward to, even though it will be quite a drive for me. I thought I would summarize some of the info for those that dont know already. Mods, if this is duplicate info, feel free to delete.... Willie

Yes, There will be a new dive site in Texas. If you watched Channel 26 Fox news today, they had a pretty good piece about it at 8AM. Michelle Cryer was at the lake (well, it is a sand pit still, but that is going to change) and they went into the history of it. To make a long story shorter, we ARE moving our shop to the lake site this summer. There are still permits to be signed, and hoops to be jumped through. We hope to start construction no later than May 1. There is still some sand to be hauled out, and various objects to be put in there, including training platforms. We do have items from Astroworld, NASA, and various other areas. How about diving around antique fire trucks? We have two of them. A jet? Got it! Boats? We have over 15. We plan on naming various areas of the lake depending on what is there. For example the boat graveyard will be the "Bermuda Triangle."

The lake is named Mammoth Lake after the Columbian Mammoths they found in the pit, along with the prehistoric armadillos, bisons, camels, etc.

We are planning on getting an aerial photo of the lake after everything is in place but before we flood it. And then construct a map. We are talking about placing 'You are here' placards on the items, with distances and compass readings to other items of interest. We also plan on four peaks (submerged) that are in a compass rose format (ie; due north, south, east, west). In this way you can start at the south pinnacle and run due north, east, etc.

Doubt if we will have Astro games on TV, but how about a submarine? Working on a 60' long, 10' diameter sub. Conning tower, props, torpedoes, (toypedoes?) periscope, deck gun. Probably call it the 'U-what?' This is really one project where we can let our imaginations run wild. We also are going to buoy everything before it floods, and have the name on the bouy. And once the lake is full, take another aerial photo showing the buoys.

If I read the map right, the coordinates are:
Longitude 95.42019 North, Latitude 29.02884 West

So is this in the Houston area?
