I use TSD too, partly as they are a fun op but also having their own mooring at Monad i think gives an edge.

Pic is of Gato Island, thats why prob not suitable for the non-diving family
 
I am actually going to Malapascua and Alona Beach next July/Aug for my honeymoon. I had done quite a bit of research and have encountered some of the same questions as you. I determined that even though the diving doesnt have a lot of variety, the macro sounds great and the idea of threshers as well. We are doing Thresher Shark Divers and then staying at the Pyramid Resort on Alona. I too had done quite a bit of research on shops and resorts as there are so many! Curious to hear about your experience once you are back. We decided to do 5 and 4 just like do are doing as well.
