Well... as many of you might know, Britt has secured a 3 month lease on the Madison Quarry. These 3 months might be the last times you can dive it as the Waterboard has stated that it won't allow diving there next year. (for all the discussion on that, see this thread http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/deep-dixie-divers/234473-madison-quarry.html)

He hopes to have it open the weekend of Aug 2nd/3rd if all goes well.

So.... who all's headed out that weekend to dive?

I'm going to try go out that weekend, but not sure yet if I'm going to be able to go Saturday or Sunday.

anyone else going to be there that weekend?

-Mike

I'd love to go...but Sunday would work best for me, since I get off work at 7am Saturday (and that's a bit of a long drive to make from T-town on no sleep)

I take it back...Saturday would work just fine...as Mr. Bamamedic has agreed to drive me there.

So, if y'all decide on Saturday, I'll be there (albeit sleepy and with the assistance of Starbucks!) :)

Mike,
I'll be looking for the posted times and ways to fill out forms. As a local community, we should strive to show our support for this 3 month project. If we have any out-of-towners coming in to stay for the weekend, please be sure to inform the local lodging and dining management (or wherever you might end up spending money outside of diving) that without the quarry being open, THEY WOULD NOT BE APPRECIATING YOUR $$$$! I read what Mike said about the Waterboard's decision against diving, but money has a way of changing attitudes downtown.

I'm sure Britt will be posting all that this week.

But I expect them to be open somewhere around 8am on weekends, but I'll let him post the "official stuff". From his earlier reports, it'll be $20 admission. I would highly suggest CASH unless you pre-pay him down at his store beforehand... (no phone line out there to authorized a credit card machine).

Right now he's set up this website for info on the quarry (see below URL). All he's got now is som pictures that he took during this past week. It shows that the water level has returned to "normal pool" after the pump test from 2 years ago. So that should put most of the quarry in the 50 to maybe 55' range. This time of year, historically that should result in about a 76f bottom water temp for when the water was that deep in the quarry. (just one thermocline).

Here's the website Better Diver Madison Quarry www.madisonquarry.com

There's a whole lot more going on with that...... will catch you up on it later.

I'll be there if they open it up....Looking foward to it !!!

Ya'll better get up with the roosters if your going to be first at the gate. I'm an early bird and will be out the door with a hot cup of brew antsy of having a easy day of diving for a change.

White trailer, champagne colored truck if anyone wants to stop in and say howdy do. Rita and I usually cook a easy lunch of some cheese dogs if anyone wants to join in. Lemme know so I'll know how much food to bring. Ya'll eatem, I'll cookem!

what's the plan for air fills?

There won't be an onsite compressor. Can't blame him as he has such a short lease and there just wasn't time to get one arranged and wouldn't make sense cost wise for such a short period of time.

Britt I'm sure will have some (a few) for rent, but you should plan to bring tanks with you to make sure you have some. ( I wouldn't be surprised if most of his are rented out early by people going by his shop beforehand).

If you need fills beforehand or rental tanks, you can pick them up at one of the local shops.

Since your profile says you're in Decatur, I'd drop by Dive Sports and pick some up.

There will be airfills, (Remember Mike, I got the portable gas powered compressor just in case I got the quarry open :) )

I am working on getting a cascade system put out there this week, but the more air everyone brings the faster it will go, the compressor is only an 8cfm, 5000 psi Mako.
