Hello

Does any one know what gear manufacturers make there equipment in the USA. If not made in the USA what companies are headquarter here. It seems like a lot have overseas parent companies. Not trying to be anti-overseas, just a personal preference.

Thanks

Actual place of manufacture could get tricky. Some things are assembled in the US from foreign made parts. As far as US companies, Zeagle is in Florida (I think their tags say made in the USA). ScubaPro is in California and is part of Johnson Outdoor (itself a subsidary of Johnson Wax). Most other major brands are European or Asian. Aqualung is a French co., Mares and Cressi are Italian, Tusa is Japanese, Oceanic is in the US, believe so is OMS and Dive-Rite. Halcyon is in Florida. That should cover better than 90% of the gear sold, except for more specialised pieces like dry suits or dive lights.

Look at www.diversunion.org and check the manufacturer's list for a faily complete list of gear manufactures. The list also has US mailing addresses but won't really tell you where the headquarters are.

And just before anyone brings this out - US Divers stands for Undersea Divers. It was never American. It's owned by Aqualung.

Scubapro may be based in the USA (the world HQ is in Wisconsin or some such place)their regs are made in Italy, BCS being made in Italy or Mexico and the USA depending on the model and what part of the world you live in and Uwatec CPUs are made in Switzerland.

Aeris regulators are made in California.

Yes I was amazed at walking the Aeris / Oceanic plant with how much stuff they actually produced there themselves. They actually have a guy who winds the tubes for pressure gauges right there... They kick out not only all their reg parts - but even the hose ends on their own screw machines in the factory. While some of the components of the computers come from overseas - the things are assembled and tested right there. And since Sherwood / Genesis are using their gauges - same would go for those gauges and computers as well.
