Depending on where you are at in NC, the shops around Raleigh don't have an issue with them when properly inspected. See if the shop will take a quick look for cracks first, before sending it for a hydro. No need to pay for a hydro if cracks are visable but otherwise if you don't intend to travel with them, have it checked and dive it but only IF your shop will fill them.

Why even bring up the issue? These are 6061 tanks not 6351 tanks. There's no reason to suspect sustained load cracks and there's no reason to do eddy current tests. Just send it in for Hydro / VIS and start diving them if they pass. If it was me I'd be on the defense for ignorance but I wouldn't give them ammo to be ignorant.

I live outside of Fayetteville but I am starting to frequent Dive shops in Raleigh as they are better equipped that the shops here in Fayetteville.

One shop up this way will do a VIP on any 20+ year old cylinder for $129.!

Name them.
