going to little cayman in july. the cayman air website says you can take 55 lbs.........but it seems i've heard people say you're only allowed 50. anyone personally been there and can tell me which it is? that extra 5lbs would be nice to use, but i didn't want to risk it if you get there and then they say, no, it's only 50. any other little cayman advice welcome too. thanks

Isn't it 2 check bags of 55lbs each and a carry-on?

I'm going to Cayman Brac at the end of May and was trying to make sure I was clear with the luggage rules myself.

55 pounds it is.

That is correct for going to Little Cayman and flying the Otter.

If you are only going to Cayman Brac, it is possible you are on one of the big planes and the 2 bag limit does apply. However, I would suggest you check with the airlines since some of them here in the states have recently changed their rules for how many bags can be checked free.

Remember that on the Twin Otters, whether they are going to LC or the Brac, that 55 pounds is TOTAL - including carry-ons.

now i'm even more confused. cayman airway website says 55 lbs, plus a 15lb carryon. but i thought i had heard it's 50 lbs plus carryon. i would like to be able to rely on their website, but i realize that the real experience may be different. anyone have recent personal experience on this? i don't want to pack only fifty if i can have 55! and any experience with the carryons?

On our trip over, they weighed the dive bags and other luggage and the limit was 55 lbs for the flight to LC. If you had a backpack or purse, they didn't weigh it. If you had a bag that was a suitcase style carry-on or a labeled reg. bag they weighed it and counted it towards your 55 lbs. Luckily I had all of our regs. and computers in my backpack and they didn't weigh it. I never saw them weighing carry-ons as a separate item. Good news is there isn't much on LC other than diving and some casual resorts so you can pack light assuming you don't have a heavy camera rig.

We were there in March 08 ... carried the following bags for 2 divers:
1 carry-on ea. @ 15 lbs. (estimated)= 30 lbs
1 dive bag = 50 lbs
1 suit case = 48 lbs
1 suit case = 45 lbs

So, approximately, we had 173 lbs for 2 people. Going to LC they didn't charge us (they didn't weigh one of our carry-ons). Leaving LC we paid $16.00 for excess weight.
