I just heard on the news that an early model Boeing plane crashed into Puget Sound today (maybe yestersday). There's very few of them still around. Since it was headed for a shinny place in a mussem, they want to salvage it. My question for the divers in the area, is there a possiblity of diving it? ei depth, current, legal restrictions. For me it would be purely a second-hand/ dream dive since I'm on the the other side of the country. The bit starting with "... the boeing plane crashed into Puget Sound earlier today...." My next thought was a new dive site for the lucky in the north west.

Seeing as how it went in right by one of our main training sites you would think we would get to dive it right?

Well seeing as how they have armed guards surrounding it I think that is highly unlikely!

The only guys that really had a shot at it were the ones already in the water when it went in ;)

With the history they were giving for this plane, how recent, and the intented recovery I thought is might be something like that. Hey, you can always hope!

My brothers wife saw the plane go in and notified my brother at work. he and a budy did a dive there at 3:00am
he is up here for easter and has been telling us about it.

they snuk in the water up a ways and swam underwater towards it.

then got busted.

he said there wasn't much to see except the outside of the plane

he went through quite the hassle once busted but they really couldn't do anything since were he intered it was not posted and he pulled off the old I did know and just happend to be out for a dive

According to the news, it has already been removed from the water.

The Boeing Stratoliner 307 was barely in the water for 24 hours when it was picked up and removed, and placed on a barge. It went in shortly after noon on Wednesdays and before is started to sink was towed to shallow water, where it came to rest on the bottom approximately 50 feet from short with the the tail and left wing protruding from the water. The closed an area of 250 yards around it, which was patrolled by the City Police, and the Boeing Fire Department. They were very cautions about letting anyone near it for safety reasons and constantly had boats and what not trying to get to it, along with a lot of stragglers gawking. It would have been a bad idea to try to dive on it.
