My husband and I will be staying in Lucaya for a week during the end of June/beginning of July and we were looking for some recommendations about which dive outfit to go diving with. Also, is there anything else that is fun to do there that you'd recommend for first time visitors? Thanks for the advice! :D

I would definately recommend using Xanadu for diving. Just got back from diving with them for 5 days (I am writing a trip report, to be posted shortly). They run small boats and Ray and Ben take great care of you. They will pick you up and take you back from whatever hotel you are staying at. Ray really knows how to find interesting things for you to see. I'll be posting some pictures later today that were taken on our trip.

Thanks for the info, I look foward to seeing the pics. Did you do anything else while you were there? Any sightseeing?

We did not do any sightseeing - just 2 dives every morning and the beach in the afternoon.

We stayed at the Xanadu which is not in the tourist areas - and chose not to take a taxi to either Freeport or Port Lucaya. Not into the tourist stuff anymore. Wore ourselves out with the diving, sunning, swimming and snorkeling.

There are a few pics already posted in my gallery - more to come.

We dove a couple of days with Unexso on our last Freeport trip. If you're staying at Our Lucaya, it's ultra-convenient to walk across the street and get on the boat in the marketplace.

I couldn't agree with TN Traveler more. Ben and Ray are wonderful folks. As an added bonus, Xanadu has free lockable storage at their shop.

My wife and I dove with them last year, and I just reserved a weeks worth of diving with them for this July.

It might be touch with a non-diving partner, but if you can get away for a night dive, you won't be disappointed.

I recommend Grand Bahama Scuba
Great outfit, Great Boat, Freindly, helpful safety first Staff. Gear storage just feet from the boat. They will also pick you up at your hotel.

Other things to do:
A day trip to the Garden of the Groves.
A trip to the Caves and Gold Rock Beach.
Casino
Count Bassie Square on the weekend evenings.
Check out the many good restaurants.
Dive, Dive, Dive!!!
Don't even bother checking out the International Bazaar area. Last time we were there it wasn't worth the trip.

I agree with Tavi. Grand Bahama Scuba is the best. Fred and Melinda take personal interest in you having the best dive experience possible. They will take care of your gear while you are there and have it ready for your dives every day. Melinda takes many pictures every dive. She can even make a DVD or CD for you to take home at a very reasonable price.

For top side time, I would recommend the Kayak Nature Tours. They will take you through the Mangroves at the Nation Park. This is a beautiful relaxing trip. Ask for Shammie.

There is a man called AJ. I forget the name of his business (Shamie or Fred could tell you how to contact him). He will take you and your significant other to a deserted Island, catch and prepare lunch and dinner for you, and leave you there for a few hours, or overnight :14:

He also does fishing trips.

I haven't done this. I'm always to busy diving!! :D
