Does anyone have experience with worthington LP85s as sidemount tanks? I have read that some LP85s get very tail floaty under 2000psi but am unsure if that's Faber or Worthington. I am currently diving coldwater with a katana 2 and buttplate using faber HDG hp100s, doing a lot of back and forth between saltwater and freshwater.

They ALL float up in the butt when low psi in salt water. Using a butt plate you need to either put lead on the cam bands or front clip them as the gas is used up (or the entire dive if using trimix). The worthingtons won't actually get positive until its basically empty, but it will want to tip valve down. The Fabers will tilt valve down a little sooner than the worthingtons but this problem is endemic to any SM tank in salt water.

In order of tail floatieness least to most
faber hp100s (3AA tanks which are also -17lbs each when empty and undivable)
worthington 85/pst hp100
worthington hp100
faber hp100s (exemption tanks)
faber 85s

do you know if there's a difference in trim/buoyancy characteristics depending on the coating? ie galvanized or painted? Or is it negligible?

for the current crop of painted vs galvanized Faber's there is no functional difference

what sites in this area are you diving SM in the katana? Personally I put lead on the cam bands because I need [lots] of lead anyway and its a convenient place.

Let’s see. You should have ended your dive at 1600 psi and be getting out of the water. That is of course if you filled them to 3800 psi to start the dive. That 2400 stamped on the top of the cylinder is to let you know what your turn pressure is. 🤪🤪🤪
