JohnnyQuest once bubbled...
I talked to David at LP about the very issue you raised about the X650. I also talked to SP headquarters. According to Scubapro, the X650 was released a couple of months or so ago. Shortly after release, they recalled them to modify the dive/pre-dive switch. During the redesign of the switch, authorized dealers were told to return all they had and not sell any until the retrofitted versions were available.
LP bought all their X650 in non-US countries when they were first released. David at LP was very candid about his X650 regs NOT being the retrofitted ones and told me to NOT buy one. He was also upset that ScupaPro never posted the recall on their web page and therefore, was not aware of it. I.M.O. Scubapro should immediately post something like that on a web page. Incidently, ScubaPro told me that the photo of the X650 on their own homepage was the old model and that the one on the LP page is what it actually looks like!! They said, "Wow, we didn't realize that; thanks; we will update the photo." That was three weeks ago. The old/incorrect photo remains as the thumbnail, but when you click on it the correct photo appears. I guess they got it half-way fixed! I hope the actual reg is fixed ALL the way!
Anyway, I applaud LP for being honest about the X650. It is a bit strange that they are still selling them but recommending us not to buy them (I suspect that they are not selling them now although their web page lists them as in stock).
The US dive equipment industry is operating illegally in my opionion. They price fix. In Europe they don't do this (probably since they have less lawyers) so LP buys them at competitive prices in Europe and elsewhere. When we buy from LP we can take advantage of that.
it was good of David to warn you off but it looks to me like if I click "add to cart" they'll sell one to me with no warning. Will they send me an obsolete reg of will I just have to wait a long time for the real one to come.
Nice guys all right!
