I am not sure but you can dive the area around lovers point other than b4 11:30 you just cant be in the swimming hole area from what I understand.

We dove there all day in the spring and no one said anything to us. It also matters if it is busy there. Summer time peak weekends will be more of an issue.

...there have been so few people in the parking lot, that it seems to be a moot issue. While I may have not followed the letter of the ordinance, I'm certain that I follow the spirit of the city ordinance

I think this is a terrific point, Jeff--diving outside of hours occurs, but is low key--a handful of divers slipping in and out. Todd

Monastery has more stuff to see at night than Lover's, IMHO.

One thing to keep in mind is that at Lovers, you'll have the benefit of some street lighting when you surface, to help you guide yourself back in (especially if you end up a little bit lost). Monastery is going to be really dark over the sand berm at night.

As much as people hate Breakwater, it isn't a bad night dive, if you get away from the wall a little bit, just to mix it up.

Breakwater is a great night dive. Absolutely fantastic. I've never been there and seen less than a half-dozen octos.

Did a night dive once from the Beach Hopper 2 at Lover's Point, saw lots of bat rays and octopus flying all over the place. Also saw alot of octopus and metridiums there was really for a change.

The restriction ends at sunset. And the practicalities are that if there's almost nobody
on the beach and you don't kick sand on the few that are, no problem.

Lover's is a nice night dive. Just don't wander into the Old Bathhouse in your dive suit
and expect to get dinner. It's a nice place, but I feel underdressed a bit in slacks and a
button up shirt (but they still serve me).

I wouldn't do Monastery as a night dive without a marker light on the beach and
someone to guard it. I know people who have done it, and it kicks ***, but do pay
attention to conditions and navigation, and crawling out.
