Generally I agree with those comments but looking at the setup it is not clear that this would qualify as an actually dumb thing to do, provided one kept some situational awareness.

It could just as easily have been a freak accident, granted, but that said: where does situational awareness end and stupid begin?

This was a really sad story here in south Louisiana, as he was from Zachary, a town just north of Baton Rouge, and by all accounts a really good guy:

Wow, that is a lot of overhang. When watching the video it looks like he bolts straight up without going back a bit first to clear the overhang. yikes

Either way, so sad. Our sport is cruel in a way that sometimes you go from the happiest holiday moments to worst life tragedies. Especially in cases like this. This makes me so sad.
