I lost my catch bag this morning at STB. It was a Trident dayglo red on top with "JKS" written in yellow pen. And - it was empty!

We thumbed the dive after 1 minute in 1 foot viz. The surf must have tweaked it off its bolt clip.

Did 2 tanks at Hathaway instead.

Sorry, but not at the same site you lost yours and different color. But if someone else lost a catch bag recently and can identify the site in New England, color and description (I know... "It looked like a catch bag".) I would be happy to try to reunite you with it.

Yak, conditions sure were rough this Sunday on the south coast. I was looking to get a snorkel in and damn sea were churning under that NE wind. I must have checked out every spot I could think of in scituate and cohassett.

Seems like the NE wind will be around for a good portion of the week. But if you are looking to try a middle week (postwork) dive or STB again this weekend, give me a hauler!! STB is one of my fav sites on the south coast.

How was Hathaway (great plan B by the way!) did you get over to the sunken boat? Swim through the Saab?

Also can you give me(us) a little info on STB. I havent been there yet this season since they loaded the beach with sand. Used to be a rocky beach, curious what it's like post-dredging..

sorry to hear about the bag...cheers

It was my first visit to STB. My buddy Jim was remarking at the sand. It looked pretty nice to me. It seemed that about 10 feet from shore I was no longer touching bottom, I don't know if this drop-off is normal or a result of the new beach.

Hathaway (also my first time) was OK. Dropped onto the boat on the first dive, found the Saab on the second. We then did a slow putt putt along the mud/veggie line. It was starting to get boring until I slowed down even more and checked out the micro life in the weeds. I didn't see any eels, but Jim was complaining up them "not leaving him alone". (He doesn't like eels - must be an Indiana Jone type thing).

I am very concerned that all that sand they dummed on the beach will effect the ecosystem at 25-35 feet. I think it might fill in a lot of the bug-beds. There used to be very little sand on the beach. would start with some sand way up but after two steps you were on mostly small to hockey puck sides stones and the stones would get bigger as you got to the water line. Once in the water the bottom would be stoney and gradually give way to some mud flats then spotty sand and boulders.

Most likely the crappy visibility is directly related to all that new-sand. The NE wind was churning up all that recently deposited sand...I'm worried this project will wreck THE BEST beach dive on the cape (and one of only like 2 decent sites)

Agreed that Hathaway is a little boring compared to the ocean, but the local dive club/shop has done a superb job over there (kudos to them) and it was nice to have a plan B to save your dive plans. Thats a pretty clear line between the vegitation and the silt huh...that silt is also pretty darn thick. It's also a great place to practice some dive skills, bouyancy, buddy breathing, underwater removal and dressing of BCD and Tank, mask clearing...etc, etc.

only dove there twice...did not see any eels..hmmmmm

After thumbing the dive, we did notice that there seemed to be a lighter color to the surf for about 20-30 yards, which was likely sand. At that point we weren't keen on determining if the viz was any better beyond that point.

Yea, the silt is thick. I only wish that the students who kept flying by us were taught how to frog kick, as well as how to slow down and enjoy where you are.

I lost a Blue trident squeeze bag, had a d-ring on back. May still have swivel and lanyard. The sight was Lanesville.

Must be the place to loose stuff. Guy on our boat lost a glove today.

Would you belive 2 divers in another boat found it while looking for their lost dive flag.

I never thought of using this site for lost gear but my wife lost a dive camera off Flag Rock 2 weeks ago in case it drifts by someone.

Brother and I had two nice dives off STB today, but we did not see your catch bag or anyone else's lost equipment.
