Likely a shot into the void. I lost my DJI Action 5 camera with black action handle on my Tuesday morning Dalila/San Francesa dive. The current was the strongest it was all month, we saw it drop but were helpless to recover it. I wouldn’t be surprised if it landed much further north with how fast we were drifting. Sadly the screw secured to the end of the action handle failed at the end of the dive and it dropped. My fault really, the mechanism wasn’t great in hindsight.

A real shame, had shots of two big turtles and it was only my second time using it. Anyway if you find it, I’ll fund reuniting it to me plus some, otherwise enjoy the camera to whoever finds it (maybe send me the videos on it haha).

Some lessons are learned the hard way. After a similar experience every screwed connection in my wife's camera rig is reinforced with nylon zipties.

The worst is the stupid flimsy lanyards at the base of many 'Handies', just about guaranteed catch and fail when coming up the ladder.

Did you happen to photo your contact info at the beginning of the card? It greatly helps in recovery, most folks are honest given a chance.
No… a great idea in hindsight.

Do you have trip insurance. I insist on such for family members for any international trip and many policies cover such losses. Otherwise, State Farm offers a Personal Articles policy that pays well. Protect your personal property with a personal articles policy
I do have travel insurance that covers baggage loss, which might cover personal items. Looking into the policy documents on this one.

File the claim. It's worth a try. I lost a PLB and dive canister on a trip once, filed the claim, and collected. You do need to report the loss to the local police before you leave. Get a copy,

We talk about this a lot; are you new around here? :D

My story: A few years ago my wife's brand new camera separated from the strobe as she was getting back aboard the dive boat (hence the zipties now) at the end of only the second dive on which she had taken the camera, and both of them headed for the bottom. We were at the surface with BCs inflated and fins off, so all I could do was watch them go. I had drawn up a "THIS CAMERA BELONGS TO" card in black sharpie and taken a picture of it as the first image on her card.

We had not enabled international calling on our cellphones while we were in Mexico (another lesson learned), but when we were in the Houston airport on the way home a couple of VMs came in from a guy who had found her camera and had tried to call us when we were all still on the island. Someone he was diving with had also found the strobe nearby, and they could tell that they obviously went together. He was home in California by that time, but he had both the camera and strobe. He boxed them up and sent them to us.

He's new to Scuba. I suggest that new divers hold off on getting a camera until their second hundred dives, but I guess that it's just part of the sport to many.

I have been diving for more than 30 years and I still don't have an UW camera. My wife is the photographer; I am her spotter. :D
