I saw this posted on facebook this morning. I wish I was shocked or surprised, but I've been aware of it for too long.

It has to stop, or the Japanese will empty the ocean within my lifetime.

Saw this on Facebook yesterday. Of course it is a shame for any of us who love sharks and balanced marine ecosystems.

How can this be real? I mean, so many THOUSANDS here? It's not possible. It's as if the whole of the ocean's Shark population have been caught in one. To comprehend thousands when just seeing one Shark here is bad enough. It's a site impossible to take in.

I was utterly shocked when I first saw this. You hear about the numbers but seeing it in images makes it all click.

Yes shark fin is consumed by the Japanese and chances are, if you go to an upmarket sushi restaurant in your town, there will be a shark fin item on the menu.

Hawaii has led the way in being the first state to ban shark fin. Hopefully, others will follow.

There are things you can do to help:

- Talk about this issue with your family and friends
- Show others these images
- Sponsor an Anti Shark fin billboard in China:
Strike a blow against shark fin soup!

- Write to your Senators and demand the S.850 Shark bill stuck in the Senate gets passed. It's being held up over wording because of the dogfish industry in the mid-atlantic.

- Join groups like these fighting to eradicate Shark Fin products in their areas:
