How is PW if your not taking any cert. classes & just want to dive with them? Are there any other dive shops in San Pedro? I'm not worried about the neighborhood, just the shop :D

I would assume (and you know what that means) you are planning on doing boat dives. If that be the case, may I suggest you look at www.californiadiveboats.com . There you will find all the different dive boats and their locations, fees and schedules (for the most part anyway). If you sign up with one of them you really don't need a dive op in the area.

If you are planning shore dives I would recommend going a little further south, say somewhere around Laguna Beach. There is good shore diving around Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach and up towards Malibu butI always found conditions better down South.

Besides, if you dive in the Santa Monica Bay area you may run into the "boyfriend" of that 815 lb female Mako someone caught a week or so ago. He might be a little upset right now - you know what I mean Verne :D

Kat - I haven't been on any of their charters, but they are the most convenient shop to 22nd Street Landing in San Pedro, if that's where you are headed...

Socaldiver - thanks for the great web site. Tons of info!

Kelpmermaid - I'll be staying w/ friends, around 26th Ave. I won't have a car, so I don't want to inconvience them. (They don't dive)

I am glad it can help you out.

When were you planning on being in socal?

I am going to be there around the 10th of October. My dive buddy just informed me she has to work the 10th and 11th so she won't be able to dive. I was planning on going over to Catalina and dive Casino Point, if you are going to be in the neighborhood you are more than welcome to join me.

They're located in a convenient spot if you're launching a boat from the San Pedro harbor, and they carry a pretty good selection of regulators.

BUT, on the 3 occassions these guys charged my tanks, I was short changed 200-300psi each time. ALSO, I didn't appreciate one of the shop employees doing a comical impression of me speaking to my girlfirend on the cellphone in Japanese (when I was forking over a $100 for a pair of jetfins).

we decided on Reef Seekers. My husband signed up for the 9 day course in November. I'll get him to post his thoughts when he's done. Thanks everyone for your comments.

:upset:
Wouldn't recommend Pacific Wilderness. I went there after finishing my cert at another dive shop to buy the rest of my and my daughers equipment and basically got treated like I was interrupting them. When I asked questions about equipment they did not carry I was told it was junk and that is why they didn't carry it even though it is highly rated in Rondales and several friends recommended it. As I see it I will give my $3 to $4K of money to a dive shop that doesn't mind answering questions and will not make you feel like and idiot for asking about something they don't carry.

i have no exp with PW or SC as far as instruction. I have purchased items at tboth locations with no problems.

i was happy with a shop in Burbank, Aqua Adventures. I met the owner and some of the staff, they were very nice people and i will be doing some of thier charters even though i live in OC. Sounds like they got some good instructors up there too.

no horror stories from here i hope, let me know if there are i will look else where.
