I was surprised to see the harassment in the video.
This History of NAUI was co-written by Al Tillman, NAUI Instructor #1, who was a founder of the Los Angeles County program and who learned his craft at the nearby Scripps Institute. In that history, he spends a lot of time talking about the 1960 gathering of instructors in Houston, the gathering in which instructors from around the country showed how they taught as apart of the creation of NAUI and its initial standards for instruction. In reading Tillman's description, I inferred that he was surprised when he saw some of them using harassment as a part of instruction, and I further inferred that he did not personally approve.
