Thank you to everyone who replied.
I've been diving for a very long time and the shops that valued me as a customer and a diver were the ones that took the time to have a conversation, with me and what I was looking for either for equipment, service, travel, or just a recommendation on what's next on the horizon when it comes to diving the world. They knew very well if they provided that type of service, I was going to spend my dive dollars with them.
Without throwing some of the dive shops mentioned under the proverbial bus, I've gotten the "you don't need that because we only carry this..." or the "what do you mean you're a solo diver that signed up for one of our group trips???" to the "I don't believe you're a diver..." If you want to DM me privately, I'll share my experiences.
I will check out PW in San Pedro, Blue Holic, and Zen in Pasadena.
