I'm a Fish!
Did a scooter dive from lookout point to Whitcliff park today with Randy76. Visibility was good under 50ft. Spent most of the dive at 100ft and encountered no current so dive took a little longer than expected. We were hoping to catch a bit of current but the exchange was too slow this AM. The entrance to Lookout is covered in driftwood and logs. I slipped on one on the way in and almost broke my arm (was carrying my twin 130s and scooter). lucky I landed on my pride. After a successful recovery we entered the water and visibility was 5 ft max. we scootered around the point and proceeded down and followed the wall towards Whitecliff. There were several sandy areas preceded by large rock formations and wall. We were down to 137ft and there was not much in the way of sea life however we did spot 2 large red sea urchins on the way down. The usual sea stars, sea cukes and rock fish. We did come upon 1 pair of mating snow crabs and one male snow crab. There where what looked like brine shrimp everywhere. We swam through clouds of them. Then we came upon the familiar sight of sponges and plumose so we knew we where close to home. The current into Whitecliff bay at the point was horrendous. Had we not had the scooters I don't think we would have made it in. Did some deco at 12 feet. While hovering there I saw a Giant Pacific Chiton, it was about 14" long which is as big as they come. We m then continued into the bay, current still crappy. Ended up scootering right to shore. Total dive time 75minutes.
I'd do it again, but hopefully there will be more to see...:idk:
