I'm going to be in San Diego on Vacation the first week of March and I'm looking for dive shop suggestions. I'll need full equip rentals.

I'm a semi-beginner (< 20 dives), I'd like to dive the Coronado's but also be able to bring my wife \ child along as just passengers (they don't dive).

I'd also like to dive the Kelp forests. I'd preferably like to do this early in the morning (at one point I had found a place that had 6-9am dives) so that my wife isn't bored out of her mind for two whole days while I'm off diving.

Any suggestions \ reccomendations?

Thanks in advance.

The coronados are a great dive, however if you not diving the boats are not very big and don't leave much room for the people to just watch. Usually seating is limited. You maybe better off sending the wife and child to Sea World and meet up with them when you get back.

A quick check seems to indicate that only Dive Bliss is going out there that week. Don't know if they take passengers - it's a pretty small boat. And sometimes the Coronados can be pretty rough on the surface. Most (all?) of your options: California Dive Boats : The Official Page It is pretty easy diving, a lot of checkout dives are done there. And the seals/sea lions can be a lot of fun - they'll find you most likely...lol.

This is the shop I use while in San Diego. They are fantastic but are on the tech side. SDUA Home Page

Dive Connections is the easiest way to book a boat dive. The Lois Ann is good too.

San Diego also has a lot of great shore diving.

I can meet you for a morning/lunch/night dive during the week. Unfortunately I'm flying on Sunday (Feb 28th), so can't dive on Saturday. PM me closer to the date if you want to go....we can do a shore dive at La Jolla shores, or the Cove, conditions permitting.
