Are there any dive charters that regularly go out to the U-853? I will be in the area (between RI and Maine) August 22-24 and would like to catch a dive on that U-boat. The only shop I found that has regular scheduled dives is Giant Stride Dive Shop; however, they said they were already full for their Aug 24th dive.

:dontknow:

If Giant Strides isn't using them you could try canned air in CT. Keep checking back with Giant strides they get cancellations all the time.

It looks like Canned Air is going out there with Giant Stride on the 24th. That's the day Giant Stride said they're booked. I'll call both again and hope for a cancellation.

GS use Canned Air and 1 or 2 other boats. It's worth calling both and leaving your name and number for cancellations. Good luck it's a good time to dive the sub vis is the best it'll be and, critters we usually don't see here come around in Aug. too!

No I haven't got to use the boat yet! :( I've had a run of bad luck that seems to happen every time I get close to having the funds to register her! The last time was my wife wrecking her car, now we're scrambling to find the funds for a replacement as well as finding a replacement.

On the up side I've fixed several patches that were leaking so it holds air well now. I also made a new forward floorboard to replace the one you repaired. I run the motor in a barrel to keep it usable. I'm so bummed about having it and not being able to use it. Another obstacle is a trailer hitch that's about $230.00 that I can't find either. I haven't even discussed registering it with my wife in a few weeks now. I'm hoping maybe next week I'll be able to swing it. I can use my buddy's truck to tow it at least to try it out! Living paycheck to paycheck sucks! Thanks Obama and company for wrecking the economy.

Enjoy your diving tomorrow. I think the wife and I are going to go to Green Bridge Saturday, someone told me they saw a yellow butterfly fish there last week so I guess the tropical fish are here!

FYI !!! Friday 8-15-14 1815 (6:15PM) I just got a text from someone that tried to dive the sub yesterday, Thursday the vis was 1'! She came right back up after hitting the conning tower.

Did you go out? My brother's been out just fishing off BI & even just getting out there has been rough!

That was me that hit the conning tower (literally) & came back up. I'll chalk that up as worst dive ever!

under water some where

The next time that happens you could try going all the way to the bottom, sometimes, that is now and then, when it happens, but not when it doesn't the vis can get better, but don't count on it, if you get my drift. :dontknow:

Yup, we went on Saturday. My wife an I never made it to the bottom because my ears were hopelessly plugged from a cold.
My friend Pat got down and said he had 3' of vis. The second dive was a little better. We dropped on the Luther Hooper and had just less than 10'. Sucky vis. but a nice day on the water. On Sunday we took our other boat(RIB) and went up to Rockport and did the Haight and Chelsea. Flat calm and nice vis.
