Just found out that I'm going to be traveling to Chicago for business on Monday-Wednesday next week and was thinking about bringing my dive gear. My only chance to dive would be Monday afternoon/evening after I arrive.

I've never dove in the area, so I know nothing about conditions, where to dive, etc. I did see there are a couple charter boats that are recommended, and I'll try and contact them as well. Since there's only me, it may be unlikely I can get a charter, unless one's already going and looking for an extra person. Don't know if there's any shore diving.

Anyway, if there's anyone interested in diving w/ a relatively new diver on Monday afternoon in the Chicago area, please PM me. I would have to rent tanks (preferably DIN), but otherwise have my own gear.

Thanks,

John

Chicago isn't known for it's shore diving, and I think it's actually illegal in most places or maybe by permit only. Charters would be pretty slim, although it wouldn't hurt to call them and ask them where the dive action is. Also, you might be able to find a buddy who would go to Haigh Quarry, about 1 hour south of Chicago.

Good luck!

I'd also recommend Haigh Quarry. Not many (if any) charters run on weekdays. Of course I don't know how many people go to the quarry on a Monday either.

I have a list of divers that will go with you during the week. I just paired some people up yesterday.....Let me know...We have a Dive Buddy list and about 50 divers that are free during the week....

Enjoy Haigh :) and feel free to stop by and see

If you have a group of 4 to 7 divers who want to go out and dive on a week day, I can take you out. My boat, Enterprise, hails from the port of Waukegan, about 30 miles North of Chicago. Great Lakes shipwreck diving is world class!

what time are you looking to go diving I can meet you if you want to go to Haigh Quarry nice place to dive let me know.

Dale you dive ***** !! Don't you have any shame.
John, if you end up at the Haigh,I too can go .
I can bring along an extra din 100 or 120 and lead if you need it.

Dale,
see ya next week at the Haigh. If not on Monday, lets try for Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon

Dale & Jim,

The Haigh Quarry sounds like a good plan since it doesn't seem likely to get any Great Lakes diving in without having enough people to fill a boat. My flight arrives O'Hare At ~9AM, and it sounds like it's maybe 1- 1.5 hours to the quarry?? Based on that, maybe somewhere around noon?

Looking at the water temps, I suspect that I would need to bring a 7mm and my 5mm hooded vest. My other choice is a 5/4 w/ hooded vest, but I was a little chilled in that when water was 53F in SoCal. Let me know if that's the right choice?

A DIN 100 or 120 and lead (probably 6-10#) would be great if it's no problem. Sounds like they have air fills there??

Thanks for the offers to dive w/ a vistitor and I'm looking forward to diving something new!

John
