Heya everyone. I'm looking to spread my weights around a bit and get some out of my integrated weight pockets. I wanted to get some on the tank. I came across things like the XS tank strap trim pouches but am afraid they'd get in the way on my straps. Anyone used these kinda pockets in their tank straps and liked them? The other ones i've found are more like this
SeaSoft Weight
but they'r pretty pricey and you can't adjust the amount of weight.

I guess my ideal would be something that straps to the actual tank (not the straps) but has a pocket or 2 so i can put whatever lead in i'd like. It seems like a strap with a buckle and a couple of trim pouches on it is what i'm looking for...like a mini weight belt for my tank. Anyone seen something like that for sale or have clever DIY ideas?

Thanks
Chris

Heh don't own tanks yet. Just rent AL80's from the shop.

Hey, Monkey Man, what kind of rig are you diving.
There is an excellent way to add some weight to a BP/wing rig.

What type of BC are you using? Many BCs with integrated weight pockets have trim weight pockets in the back.

I dive a triple-L orion. it has 2 drop pockets and two trim pockets but i need like 27 lbs of lead in these cold waters. i can easily do 24 with those pockets and could probably cram the rest in with some shot bags, but was just curious if i'd notice a difference by spreading out the weight some. I've got less than 5 dives since cert so am still experimenting with my rig.

I have a tank boot that holds a 5lb weight in the bottom. It works great to keep me me from floating head down without having weights on my ankles. It even has a quick release pull to dump the weight if you need to. I have only seen it at Leisurepro.com and enter Tank Boot in the search box. Look for "7.25" Tank Boot with 5 LB.Weight"

The weight looks like something from a weight set so I think as long as the width and height is the same you could change the weight (of the weight ;) )

I had a problem with my tank becoming bouyant and messing up my trim when it was low on air, so I got two ankle weights with velcro straps and strapped them around the bottom of my tank just above the tank boot, and it solved the problem.

Chris,

I'm assuming that you're wearing a 7mm wetsuit and maybe a 5mm hooded vest. I'm also assuming that the 24lbs that you're putting in your BC pockets are distributed as follows: 8lbs x 2 in your QR pouches, 4lbs x 2 in the trim pockets. Where are you current putting the remaining 3 pounds?

Placement of weight does matter. You should try to balance your weighting so that you are naturally horizontal in the water. I've seen divers put an ankle weight around the neck of their tanks to move weight up higher. If you want to move your weight lower on your body, you can take the weight in your QR pounches and move them to a weight belt.

As you gain more experience and break in your gear, I'm certain that you'll be able to dive with a lot less lead. FYI: I dive in CA as well...with a 7mm wetsuit/1.5mm hood/AL80, I use 18lbs.

Wow 18# seems amazing with all that neoprene on. For my last dive i had 6 lbs in each trim pocket and each drop pocket with the remaining in the front pocket on the Triple-L orion. For anyone who's interested the front pocket isn't made for weights. They pull the velcro on the pocket off so it kinda flaps around below you a few inches. No biggy but kinda annoying. I tried diving with a weight-belt my first dive with this gear but i would prefer to fit it all in my BC since i like how compact it all is. I don't have any trouble staying horizontal right now but just figured i'd mess around with different weight patterns.
