So i'm advanced open water at the moment, happy to do my rescue diver in grey and rainy old england where i live but thought it might be nice to do my divemaster somewhere a little more exotic.
I'd be happy to combine the rescue diver course with divemaster if anyone knows any places you can do an internship. Prepared to part with a bit of cash but I obviously dont want to part with an arm and a leg (i need both for diving!)
Spent a month diving of east africa in the indian ocean (which was great) but dont want to go straight back when there are more undiscovered places. Particular interest in Malaysia, South Pacific, and Carribean (I want to swim with sharks.) Any suggestions, or dive shops that do interships up to divemaster level? Thanks.

My suggestion -- get lots of varied experience (and experiences) under your belt before you decide to become a DM. Then decide where you want to work and with whom you want to work. That's where, and with whom, you should do your DM.

Besides suggesting that you get more diving in, like the last guy, if I lived in dreary old England and wanted a better place to do my DM, my personal choice would be to go to the Med along the coast of Spain somewhere. Otherwise the US Upper Keys or Bay Islands off of Honduras.

Hi,

Apart from echoing what has been said above and getting more dives in, I would suggest doing your DM in the UK. The diving is varied and can be very challenging (not to mention cold as you no doubt have found out!). All in all a really good underpinning for skills and gaining a healthy confidence. Best of luck anyway.
Cheers

Our middle child did his on Roatan with Sueno del Mar(Ray Lopez) back in the late 90's......was gunna stay for a semester(spring of '98 I believe) & moved off the island 3 and a half years later....btw, he got his instructors 2 months after his DM next door @ Guanaja....those 2 months completely changed his life forever...When he left Roatan he left out as a water sports director for the Wind Star cruise line(you can google that) for 2 years then worked worked for Peter Hughes for 2 years on 2 of his live aboards in Turks&Caicos then Granada.....What a life for a 19 to 25 YO..

Well, whether you do your Divemaster there or not, take a look at Beqa Lagoon Resort, on Beqa Island, Fiji. Incredible diving, beautiful resort, and wonderful people.

The Big Fish Encounter through Aqua Trek, which is an optional trip during a stay at BLR, is fantastic. I'm not sure if there is any other shark dive where you'll have a chance to see as many different species of sharks. We also saw reef sharks on several dives during our week there.

We did our AOW dives there, along with another couple. They have instructors on the dive staff at the resort, though in our group, we had several instructors along as well.

Hoomi: If I could take the airplane ride to Fiji I think I'd just put down stakes there. Gotta friend who did just that at age 45. Very tempting.

If you want to be the best DM you can be you should train in gloomy, rainy old England. The challenges of low vis cold water diving will make you a better diver all round. Then go to somewhere exotic and see how much easier it is to DM when you can actually see past 30ft away.

Yeah, the plane ride was the worst part - 10.5 hours non-stop from and to LAX. For a week of diving in Fiji, though, it was definitely worth it.

On our bus ride back to the airport on Saturday, my wife asked, "Could you picture living here?"

I just said, "Oh, yeah. I definitely could."

Go to gloomy drizzly British Columbia. That way you won't get so homesick!

;)
