I just don't log dives
This week is Spring Break for all of our grandchildren and so most of them are here, enjoying their time off. I have always thought it would be great if the grandchildren would develop an interest in SCUBA and when the oldest, who is fourteen, told me that he would like to become certified to 'Dive with Grandpa', I was ecstatic. Having been certified with NAUI, I would like to keep them with an organization with whom I am most familiar. I went to the NAUI website to look for instructors; however, their site is being overhauled and I cannot find a listing of instructors like was once available. I thought I would post here for help.
  • I am unconcerned about whether the training is through a shop.
  • What are the limitations for 'Junior Divers'?
  • Is there a difference in limitations based on age?
  • Can anyone recommend an instructor or shop within a reasonable distance of Montgomery Texas?
I will also post this in the 'Texas' forum as well. Thanks for your help.

Charles2,

Go to the NAUI web site (www.naui.org), you will find option "Locate Dive Professional or Dive Center" Enter your zip or city and list of Centers/Instructors will come up with a map. You can then contact them and see what fits your needs. Remember NAUI is the oldest dive certification agency, and The Definition of Diving Good luck!

Thanks for the comment, Dan; however, it appears that the new website only lists 'Dive Centers'. The listing of 'Professionals' seems to be missing at this point and that is what I am most looking for.

NAUI dive centers would also have NAUI dive professionals affiliated with them, yes?

True John, but I assume Charles2 would rather deal directly with a NAUI instructor, who can and do work independently. As a note I have emailed the appropriate people at NAUI HQ as it appears that our new web site has a problem in this area.

Yes, but not all NAUI professionals are affiliated with a NAUI dive center. I took some NAUI training a few years ago with an independent instructor. The old NAUI website listed those instructors. The new one does not seem to (or at least I can't find it). Maybe I should spend a few weekends in Big D and visit your shop, John. I've heard some really good things about it.

Thanks! We try to earn that reputation as much as possible. If we ever don't, let us know about it!

The Dive Professionals part of the NAUI Locator has not been upgraded as of yet, if the Dive Center locator does not provide what you need, try contacting NAUI HQ directly and/or the territory rep for that region
