I'm new to scubaboard, but a friend reccomended it to me. i uust booked my Honeymoon in Hawaii fro June '06. Anyone have dive recomendations for Maui?

My wife akd I went to Maui and dove with the Scubashack, great people and attentive service. Captain Charlie also owns several condos near the boat ramp, he will give you a great deal on a dive/stay package. Tell him Marco from Phoenix said hi.

Check the Hawaii Ohana board (below) for LOTS of information.

But in a nutshell, Molokini crater (inner reef and backwall) and Lanai (Cathedrals I & II) are definitely places to dive. Charter ops will depend somewhat on where you stay, but basically in Kihei the most often recommended shops are B&B, Ed Robinsons, and Mike Severns. In Lahaina it's Lahaina Divers and Extended Horizons. If you want guided shore dives, definitely Shaka Doug in the Kihei area.

There are a couple of locals who frequent the board (Kidspot being one of them) who will shore dive with you as well.

My wife and I used Ed Robinson on our honey moon. (www.mauiscuba.com). I highly recommend the their Sunset/Night dive charter. The sunset dive is spectacular, and the waters are teeming with fish. You are also more likely to see manta rays on this dive (which we did). Ed Robinson (though a little pricer) is a well rated small service. One caution about the Sunset/night dive: It is a bumpy ride, but well worth it!

Last summer my fiancee and i dove with Lahaina Divers. We had a great time and i highly recomend them. We did 4 dives (2 am, 2 pm) with the same capt. and crew. After talking to us and seeing us on the morning dives the capt. told us we could kinda of go off and do our own thing instead of sticking with the DM for the pm dives. We stayed with the group on the first of the pm dives, but went off on our own on the last dive of the day at a site called Mala Warf. This was a great dive and easy to navigate. It was shallow, but lots to see and a ton of bottom time. I don't think my computer even registered a NDL. Anyway, if you're in the Lahaina area Lahaina Divers were good people and had a good operation.

My husband and I just got back from Maui where we completed our open water certification and I totally recommend this company www.lahainadivers.com They were very professional and really concerned about safety but also they were alot of fun and the dives were awesome!:D

I dove with Scuba Shack due to their past notoriety in Rodale's, but I think that was as far back as 2002. I dont think I would dive with them again...their boat is way to cramped and they limited dive times fearing people would have a problem going into decompression...even if they were wearing their OWN computers.

Ed Robinson Divers out of Lihea. They are on line and are great guys to dive with. We went over Christmas and were the second boat out of the harbor!!

Happy Diving

Maui Dreams fixed my BC for free and they seemed really service oriented! I dove with Lahaina Divers which was very well organized and great customer service, but a lot of divers per boat.
