I have recently been training at the pool for freediving/spearfishing. My reasons are 1: to get into shape and 2: I have always dreamed of spearfishing the ocean some day. You can only do so much training in a pool, and the next step is to hit the open water for depth training.

I'm currently looking to purchase my first wetsuit, and then I'll be ready to hit the murky cold waters of the Aurora reservoir. However, it is nearly suicidal to not have dive buddies to go with. Are there any of you out there that are into freediving or willing to meet up for some diving? I have an annual pass at Aurora, so there wouldn't be an entry fee.

Hi Maghunter,

Welcome to Scuba Board and the Rocky Mountain Oysters forum!

If you can't find a freediving buddy, perhaps one of us scuba divers could act as a safety diver while you get some freediving practice. I've done that before for friends, in the tropics.

The Aurora Res dive area is not very deep. At the airplane it's maybe 25-30ft, but in murky water that's more than deep enough. There's a buoy near there that would make a good reference line (chain) for freediving.
