I'm visiting in San Francisco for a few days and want to get some shore/boat dives in. I've tried contacting some shops down in Monterey but the two hour drive cuts into family time. Anyone in the Bay area interested in showing off good shore dive sites? Early mornings only.

You're going to have to travel either to Monterey or up the Sonoma Coast to find good diving either from shore or boat.

I agree with Hinalo,

2 hours south to Monterey/Carmel or 1 hour north to the North Coast. Anywhere in between is bad viz and White Shark territory.

Check out www.northcoastdivers.org for dive buddies on the North Coast. ZKY or renpirate would be more than happy to show you around (if they're available).

If you go south to Monterey, there are plenty of divers who can show you around and dive shops within walking distance of some of the most popular dive spots: Coast Guard Breakwater, Macabee Beach, and others.

I'd take you, but I work on all of those days.

Good luck and dive safe.

Thanks guys, I guess I'll head north or south but I wasn't looking forward to the 2 hour drive.

Love the picture in your profile! (But where's your buddy?)

:14:

probably taking the picture?

Yup. (Inside joke. I took the picture after we got out of the water only to find that the resport had "closed" the ocean that morning due to what passes for "too rough" in the Cayman Islands.)
