I'm a Fish!
I did some scouting yesterday, working on info from a lifetime native, and I have three spots I need to dive/check out soon w/ a buddy diver. All are yak dives. One is a huge beach rock formation called Point of Rocks which some locals may have heard of, but I discovered close beach access to. Another is a shrimp boat wreck 1/4 mile offshore of Seista Key, and the third is a couple of ledges 200 yrds off Longboat Key w/ good beach access. The biggest significance to any of these spots besides not being well know outside of Sarasota area local divers, is finding close beach access. A lot of both Seista Key and Longboat Key do not have public beach access. Any takers?

I'll give it a shot. Have to look at the calender.

if there are any takers for next sunday I'd like to check out Point O' Rocks and the shrimpboat.

I'm in!

When I was visiting Sarasota about 5 years ago, I had a chat with one of the lifeguards. He pointed out a sailboat wreck a bit north of the main beach there out on the key. I can't remember the key name. It's the main beach there. Anyway, this wreck was at a point where the beach curved out, and he said it had a pretty strong current and recommended against going there. From the beach you could just barely make out the top of the mast above the water. Might be gone already, but might be worth looking into.

I remember seeing that sail boat it was right out side of big pass or new pass not sure if it is still there

I think diving the shrimpboat might require close attention to the tides, since Big Pass does have significant tidal flow. The shrimpboat wreck is near the bar outside of the pass. I'm refering to it as "the Shrimpboat Wreck" since that is what I was told by a local diver that's what it is. I understand there was a wreck outside of New Pass that has long since covered over with sand.....this might be the sailboat wreck mentioned earlier.
