do it easy basically said something like I might say, and that being , to sign your own log book and that way no one can question it's validity.

When you dive Solo it is not about the Log Book.. or PADI .. or Certs. ,,,,
It's all about YOU!

I have noticed that several of the divers I have buddied with just tell me to sign my own log. I do request that they sign mainly because I want a record of my entire dive. It amazed me to see new divers just write an incomplete sentence "dove Catalina today" and that's it. Catalina has many sites and I would like to record where I have been. I think it should be strongly, kindly, suggested that the first OW dives at have everything documented.

If that works for you, great. Not sure why it should be encouraged "strongly, kindly" for others. What and how you log your dives varies greatly from person to person and there really isn't a "right" way.
