Anyone use blue LocTite on the assembly bolts holding the wing to the backplats (sex bolts)?

Richard

Short answer, no

But I have to tighten them all the time

So maybe I should - not sure what the resistance to salt water is though; and loctite is designed to set threads against vibration rather than expansion

I have some Red in my toolbox, will give it a try

Maybe not the thing if you're changing from single to double wings on a regular basis though

No, the BP/W will only be used with singles - ever. I would worry about using 'red' - that stuff can be hard to disassemble.

Lacking any definitive replies, I will be the test case. I'm going to try some 'blue' this afternoon.

Don't know @BPW, but use the gf's nail pollish instead of Loctite all the time in the shop. There is always a ready supply, it holds well, only a tiny spot is needed and a drop of nail pollish remover will disolve it easily, although I find it pretty easy to break nuts free later with no difficulty. Comes in pretty designer colors too :)

For a closed threaded connection Loctite is ideal. You definitely want blue (242) .

Red is intended to be permanent. In place of red, I normally just use thick cyanoacrylate (superglue) from the hobby store. If you already used red or super glue and need to get it apart, heat it up, usually about 200 degrees will do to soften the adhesive.

Nail polish is great for exposed connections. Especially for small parts. Dab bit across the end and it will hold, but break away with reasonable force. Years ago when I worked in x-ray field service each guy had his own color. So when a later repair was needed you could tell by color who was in there before you.

I recommend NOT bolting any wing permanently to any back plate. Backplates like to bang on wings and pinch flat them.

Having said that regular teflon tape makes a great "poor mans" temporary thread locker.

All you need is something to fill the clearance between the threads. PTFE tape is cheap, clean, easy to apply, makes removal easy. Works great.

I don't use loctite or anything, I do make a point of checking the bolts before every dive, just snug them up.
