Not sure when you are going, but two of the resorts you inquired about, the Allegro Cozumel (which I have stayed at a dozen times) and Occidental Grande will not be reopening until Jan. 31, 2006, according to the info. on their website published Nov. 4. I had already bought my a/l tickets for 1/21-1/28 planning to stay at the Allegro (a week before Wilma hit), so I have to decide whether to stay somewhere else or delay my plans. As for Iberostar, which is located next to Occidental Grand, there apparently is no reopening scheduled yet--at least according to a list I found on TripAdvisor.

I happen to like the Allegro, an all-inclusive, for its convenience to southerly dive sites beautiful grounds and beach, other activities, like sailing, and friendly staff. However, I'm wondering how badly it suffered and how quickly it will be fully back up and running. It seems likely that the grounds and beach got hit quite badly and will take quite awhile to return to pre-2005 conditions.

Dive ops other than the onsite Dive Palancar (which is okay with single tank dives and good DM's for the most part but is fairly rigid on on dive times), often pick up divers from the pier. On any of the resorts, I would try to find out whether they wil be fully operational when you plan to come, or are still "works in progress." I imagine that some will be in better shape than others.

Good luck, and keep us posted, okay?

HI Jim :)

I think he went to Cozumel in 2002 or 2003 :)

This thread started in October of 2002 :D

Anyway, your advice was still great...I just chuckled when I saw the original date on this thread :)

Have a great weekend and thanks for the note :)

Oh jeez! Pretty funny. Thanks for the heads up. Hope all is well and things are getting back to, or at least working their way toward, normal for you.

Plaza Las Glorius is closed. It was my favorite place to stay, but they closed and sold to another resort company. They remodeled and put Hot tubs in all the rooms. But I hear it is a very expensive resort now. I think it's now called the Cozumel Resort (something like that).

Another one does it :)

This thread is from 2002!

Just as an update...yes, Plaza las Glorias closed 2+/- years ago and is now Cozumel Palace...which just reopened in mid 2005...and is now still closed from hurricane Wilma with an unknown reopening date.
