Still gives plenty of time to put crustaceans on the table, and further up north, dungeness is open until the end of june. Yummy!

I thought lobsters were open year round?

Last summer my buddy & I used to dive the breakwalls & shoot at least a dozen each. :14:

Yummy!

In California the spiny lobster, no claws, has an off-season to give the bugs a break. The off season lasts through the spring, summer, and part of the fall months. This gives them a chance to breed and grow. A legal bug is about 3 years old.

Most of the contests for biggest bug are held on opening weekend after that the big bugs that got cocky during the off-season tend to hide very deeply during the "on" season.
